Salar Jung III, who was the Prime Minister of Hyderabad during Nizam's rule, collected formerly exhibited from around the world with his income for many years. Two years after his death in 1949, Jawaharlal Nehru opened the Salar Jung Museum, bearing his name, on 16 December 1951.
